Millipedes, which are arthropods, prefer being in wet and damp environments in wood and plants. With legs that can range from 100 to over 400 pairs, millipedes are still relatively slow creatures.

• As millipedes do not have eyes, they use antennae to sense their surroundings.
• At its most severe, millipedes can cause keratitis if poison reaches the eyes.
• Millipedes have rounded heads with large mandibles.
• What they lack in speed, millipedes are able to rapidly burrow into the ground.
• Millipedes move in a wavelike manner.

Avoiding millipedes can be done by removing damp areas with plants in them. Rock, or the spot under them, can serve as an area for millipedes to congregate. Give an exterminator a call if millipedes have entered your garden area.
