Get Rid of Spiders Using Other Insects and Animals

Spiders feed on many pests, but there are just as many insects and animals that feed on spiders. If your home has become overrun with spiders and you have unsuccessfully tried everything from pesticides to home remedies, it may be time to bring in the big guns in spider pest control and consider using other insects and animals to end the problem.

Praying Mantis

Gardeners have long championed the indiscriminate feeding habits of the praying mantis, a predatory insect that will basically feed on any insect it successfully captures with its fast-moving forelegs. Unleashing a few in your garden or lawn should get rid of spiders nesting in those areas. It is unclear whether praying mantises can safely be released indoors, but keeping them just outside the house should help get rid of spiders by getting rid of their main food source – other insects.

Centipedes

Centipedes are another harmless insect that can help get rid of spiders around your home. Again, it is uncertain how they can be controlled inside the home, but releasing a few in the garden or lawn should do the same trick as praying mantises. Compared to praying mantises, however, centipedes are slower and not able to kill spiders as quickly. Still, they remain one option that homeowners can use to get rid of spiders.

Toads and Other Amphibians

Many people keep toads and frogs as pets to get rid of mosquitoes and flies, but they can also be useful in getting rid of spiders. While most people find it out of the question to unleash a leaping frog inside the house (who knows how to capture it again later on?), letting it loose temporarily in a confined location – especially where a multitude of spiders are clearly present – can help get rid of smaller infestations. This is undoubtedly an unconventional idea, but it has worked in the past for gardeners who kept small ponds near their home to ward off all sorts of pests, including spiders.

While these methods all have the potential to succeed, it may help to consult with a professional pest control company who can suggest better-proven methods on how to get rid of spiders permanently around the home.
