Termites
Similar to ants, termites form in colonies; as a result, the entire colony must be destroyed in order to get rid of a house infestation. Termites are organized in a caste system, whereby the leader is the primary queen (although there are several queens in a colony). Many termites cohabit in, and feed on, wood, which can cause major destruction to a person’s home.
A termite queen and king mate by first making a nest and then forming a small space. Then, the queen will lay her eggs and the king will watch over the young. The king continues to mate with the queen for the remainder of his life. Colonies can consist of several million termites; therefore, it is best to apply appropriate prevention techniques to keep them from causing extreme structural damage.
