Moths
Sometimes called the “butterfly of the night,” the moth is a nocturnal insect, meaning that it is most active at night. These insects are attracted to artificial light and can often be seen congregating around bright lights at night. There are over 200,000 different types of these winged insects and they are found around the world. It is believed that there are even more species of moths that have yet to be discovered by scientists.
The feeding habits of moths vary greatly depending on their species. However, many moths are considered agricultural pests because the feed on, and destroy, crops such as cabbage, fruit and forest trees. Some moths, such as those in the Tineidae family, feed on various fabrics like wool and silk, making them a common household pest as well.
