Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are flying insects that belong to the Culicidae family. Consisting of a slim body, six long legs and scaled wings, mosquitoes transmit infectious diseases, such as the West Nile and heartworms, to an estimated 700 million people annually. The female mosquito sucks the blood of animals and humans, thus resulting in the spread of such diseases.
There are approximately 3,500 species of mosquitoes throughout the world. In order to for larvae to complete their cycle, mosquitoes remain in stagnant water. In about a week, their young become full-grown and ready to reproduce.
