Flies

Most of us try to swat at flies but never have any luck at killing them. They’re quick—perhaps the reason they always get indoors. Unlike other insects with ‘fly’ in their name (i.e. dragonfly, firefly, butterfly, etc.), true flies have only one wing. Their short bodies help them for efficient aerial movement, and they only consume liquid.
A female fly lays her eggs near a food source, and allows her larva (a.k.a. maggots) to consume as much food as possible in order to properly develop into an adult. Maggots are sometimes used to help clean human wounds, and also used in some food productions, like cheeses (we’re sure you turned up your lip here, right?). Once in the adult stage, a fly only lives for a few weeks, so even if you never could “catch up” to the fly in your house, take heart in knowing it will be gone before you know it!
