Earwigs
Earwigs are an insect found in North America and Europe and are known for their large wings that tuck in at their sides and are rarely used in flight. Earwigs also usually have long forceps, which extend out of their upper abdomen and are used for sensory purposes as well as protection. They enjoy cooler atmospheres, although they can also be found in more humid climates. Over the past century, they have adapted well the urban development and can be found in cities, as well as in more rural areas.
Earwigs are considered, for the most part, to be an outdoor pest. They feed on many plants, including those found in vegetable and flower gardens. They can kill these plants if they feed on them while they are still seedlings. However, earwigs can also be an asset to gardeners because they are a known predator of the aphid and can help control these populations in gardens.
