Dog Fleas
Fleas are a common pest and can be a real headache for pet owners. These tiny insects (they are usually no more than the size of a pinhead) are attracted to dogs and see them as a delicious meal. Fleas feed on the blood of mammals, and dogs are some of their most common victims. Their bites can be very painful and can cause serious itching. They also spread tapeworms, which is another threat to dogs.
Even worse is that some fleas will feed on human blood. Once they enter your home from your dog, their larvae can survive for months in the warm indoor climate. Once these pests hatch, they can attach themselves to humans or pets to feed on their blood.
The best method of flea control is to keep your dog clean. There are many special oatmeal-based dog shampoos that prevent and kill fleas. Special medications are also available to deter fleas from infecting your dog. These will work wonders in keeping them away from your home.
